What do interns say about Pause?

I am so grateful for my experience working as an intern for Pause. Throughout my time at Pause, I grew not only as a worker, but also as a person, gained so much new information through hands on work, and created relationships with some of the most amazing people. I am so thankful I get to continue to be apart of the Pause family even after my internship ended because it’s true when they say, “Once a Pauser, always a Pauser”!

— Danielle, Pause Intern Spring 2021

“While interning at Pause for Parents, Play for Kids I was able to receive real world experience in connecting and supporting families with differing needs. I developed greater soft skills in areas such as communication, motivation, problem solving, and creativity. I also refined different hard skills such as navigating Google, Facebook, and Canva, as well as putting together take-home packs at every event. Pause used to be a word that had no significant meaning to me. Now whenever I think of the word pause, I think of rest, support, connection and fun. I think of all the hardworking people behind the scenes that make Pause for Parents, Play for Kids a program that serves families with all they have to give. I will forever be grateful for my internship at Pause for providing such an enriching and fulfilling experience.”

— Audrey, Pause Intern Spring 2021

“Pause helped me learn so much about myself. I went in not knowing what to expect, especially with it being during the global pandemic. Pause changed overnight to help benefit their families they serve. That showed time and time again. Everything Pause does comes from the needs of their families. This ended up being the best part of schooling. Who would have known interning was so much fun?!”

— Alex, Pause Intern 2020-2021

“Being an intern with Pause was definitely a highlight of my college career. From gaining first-hand experience in the non-profit sector to learning how to connect people to local services and actually making an impact on so many families, Pause was much more than just a degree requirement or resume booster. It was so inspiring working with a team of people dedicated to changing lives for the better. Not only did I grow academically and professionally during my semester with Pause, I also developed so many strengths that I know will help me in all aspects of life.”

— Evelyn, Pause Intern Spring 2020

“My internship experience with Pause was a humbling experience. As an intern, I worked closely with the team and focused on developing a new program based around resiliency with families and children. The best part of my internship was the relationship built between our team, and the good conversations and uplifting affirmations shared at monthly meetings! This was an experience I’ll never forget.”

— Brianna, Pause Intern Spring 2020

“I am so grateful for every experience, every event, and everyday that I had at Pause. Walking into Pause I was an unsure and timid intern. I have seen how much I have grown through this year. From having to take 30 minutes to prepare for one phone call, to now talking on the phone is no big deal! I have learned so much about what it means to be a social worker. Pause meant to me that I was learning to work right outside of my comfort zone, constantly being innovative and creative, and having the support I needed all along the way.”

— Kyleigh, Pause Intern 2019-2020

“Interning at Pause is different than interning anywhere else because Pause is different than any other program. Not only will you get to work to provide resources for families, but you will get to interact with them in the community and watch them grow. No task will be assigned should be viewed as mundane or unimportant. Everything we do at Pause has a purpose and contributes to bettering the lives of our Pause families, even if you don’t see it right away. You will learn so much about the population you’re serving, and you will grow from this. The knowledge and experience you will gain at Pause will surely serve you in your professional and personal lives.”

— Jessica, Pause Intern 2018-2019

“At Pause you not only get an exciting internship where you are actually treated as a valuable member of the team, but you are invited into the wonderful world of children with disabilities and their caregivers. Interning with Pause is different than standard internships because your days will never look the same and your hard work in the office shows fruit in the events, meetings with caregivers and community members. The skills and training that you gain from the experience are highly valuable in the workplace, from the diversity training and public speaking to professional writing and event management. Coming out of the real world experience with Pause, interns are forever changed and will never be able to look at the world the same. This fun filled experience is priceless.”
