A Family Affair!
Over the past seven years, Pause has welcomed in hundreds of volunteers representing different clubs, organizations, businesses and schools - Miami University, University of Cincinnati, Mason High School, NSSLHA, Girl Scout Troops, and First Financial Bank to name a few! People volunteer with us for a variety of reasons. Some might be looking for service hours, others might be looking for more experience with kiddos to further their profession or even just a fun way to make an impact on their community. No matter the reason why volunteers choose to give back to Pause, we’ve found the most impactful volunteer experiences happen when volunteers bring their friends or even their families to volunteer with us!
Several families have chosen to commit to Pause to give their family something fun to do on the weekend, to have a shared experience and even to share the value of giving back to their local communities! Having committed Impact Partner volunteers is so important to the sustainability of our program. Impact Partners who commit to a year of volunteering with Pause save the program hours of staff time each month typically spent on recruitment. This puts thousands of dollars back into the program and allows us to focus our resources on families in need.
Meet the Fetzer family who has invested in Pause over the past year! Kim and her two daughters, Madison and Hannah, started volunteering with Pause last August and have joined us at numerous events including Parent’s Day & Night Out - our well loved weekend respite events, Pause Unlimited - our Sunday morning ministry and Family Fun events like the Holiday Shoppe and the Easter Eggstravaganza!
Kim has been a physical therapist for the past 30+ most of her time in home health. She enjoys cooking and baking for others and loves to plan events with her husband! Kim began volunteering with Pause after we opened up our space last summer! She had just sent her youngest of four kiddos off to college and was looking to fill some free time as a volunteer!
Madison is finishing up her freshman year at Miami University studying communication design! She loves to spend time exploring her creativity! In her spare time she is a Capernaum leader in YoungLife. Capernaum is a ministry that allows friends with disabilities to have community and grow in their faith!
Madison says, “I started volunteering with Pause because my mom talked so highly about it and there was a need for volunteers and I wanted to help out. I continue to volunteer at Pause because I think what Pause is doing is so cool and powerful in making a place of belonging. I think it is important to keep showing up at Pause to be a familiar face to the kids and in order for Pause to keep running and thriving they need volunteers! My favorite part of volunteering with Pause is how loved the kids make me feel and all the simple joy the kids have!”
Hannah is a senior at Miami University graduating in May with a degree in Family Sciences! Her goal is to work with kids in the hospital as a Child Life Specialist! Hannah enjoys traveling to new places! Her favorites so far are Cape Town, South Africa and Hawaii!
Hannah says, “I chose to volunteer with Pause because this allowed us to volunteer together and spend more time with each other. I love being able to be involved and build relationships with these kids and the other volunteers. I have always felt very welcomed and enjoy spending time with everyone at Pause! I also love that it gives me an opportunity to spend time with my mom. I feel like I am making an impact because I can see the excitement on the faces of these kids when they are at Pause events. I also have seen growth in the kids I have been regularly volunteering with and hope to continue to make an impact in some way.”
Fetzer family - thank you. Serving with Pause consistently creates connections, builds relationships and most certainly makes an impact.
