Badin High School Chooses Pause

As Pause staff, we consider ourselves innovators. Our programming team innovates new ways to enhance family experiences. Our family strategy team implements new tools and resources to help kids regulate their brains and bodies. Our development team strategically seeks out partnerships and donor support with those that align with our mission and vision. And sometimes, groups or organizations reach out to Pause with an innovative idea to bring hope to families with special needs.

Pause was honored to be selected by a group of students from Badin High School as the focus for their senior project. The group was inspired by Pause’s story at a local service fair and wanted to innovate a new way to bring their senior project to life and landed on curating bags full of goodies for both caregivers and kiddos with recent hospital stays.

The seniors set a goal of raising $500 to create the hospital bags for Pause families and quickly spread the word to their families and friends, collecting donations through GoFundMe. In a matter of weeks, the students were able to surpass their goal and raised over $1200!

Soon after, they shopped for coloring books & crayons, fidgets and stuffed animals. They filled adult bags with self-care items like candles, lotion, a blanket and gift cards to Starbucks. They topped off each hospital bag with handmade cards to share encouragement and assure families they were not alone.

At the conclusion of the project, the Badin High School seniors were able to fill 30 hospital bags and donated $400 of the money they raised to Pause. The group shared with us, “We feel like we created a sense of relief for those with special needs and those families that are in and out of the hospital. We created the hospital care bags with the intention to provide a sense of comfort and relief for both the caregivers and children. We knew that those bags were going to make a difference in those families' lives.”

Since the project began, the Badin High School students have been volunteering in our Sunday morning ministry, Unlimited, because they wanted to continue serving Pause families beyond their senior project to make even a longer lasting impact! Seeing the kids on a consistent basis, building connections with them and even seeing the joy on their faces while engaging in the activities at Unlimited helped to bring their service project to life.

Badin students - thank you SO much for choosing Pause to bless with your service. We have already started to give out the hospital bags and our families are most appreciative and grateful that you’re thinking of them during challenging times. Way to innovate a new way to help families feel loved and hopeful.

This is CAN DO.  This is COMMUNITY.  This is YOUR SUPPORT.
