It wasn’t what our Executive Director was planning to hear when she walked her then 10 year old into the ER one evening after a suspected migraine didn’t go away with medicine. Eight brain surgeries and a host of diagnoses later, that now 20 year old is attending The Ohio State University to become a trauma nurse. He was a “Pause” kid.
Pause for Parents, Play for Kids is a nonprofit organization providing rest, support, connection and fun to families with extra needs to build resilience and increase hope. Pause serves children with all types of diagnoses - 130 variations to be exact.
While each child’s journey is different, each family’s story shares commonalities. Pause parent’s most common worries are similar:
1. Will my child ever have a friend?
2. Will we always feel this isolated and alone?
3. What will happen with my child when I die?
If that feels heavy, you are not alone. We feel the weight of that too, but there is good news! Through the programs Pause offers, families are finding new hope, new friendships and realizing that even the hard questions that don’t have easy answers are easier to navigate with a support circle.
At our annual gala, Better Together on Saturday, September 7th, we will share more about these wins.
Better Together is the reminder that we can accomplish more by working together than we can alone. It's the practice of combining our strengths, talents, experiences and wisdom so we can make a more significant impact.
The opportunity to join us, starts now. We have over a dozen ways to engage in sponsorship for this event.
Why does your “yes” matter? We know Pause is changing the story, but we don’t - and can’t - do it alone. Through partnerships in 2023, family outcomes were dramatic. In the past year, Pause programs have:
Averaged a 99% satisfaction rate and 9.6+/10 Net Promoter score (satisfaction plus the participant’s likelihood of recommending the service).
Families report having more hope (98%) and joy (98%).
Caregivers made new connections 95% of the time allowing the capacity to build natural support systems over time.
Through sensory friendly and trauma responsive programming and environments, children successfully engaged with volunteer mentors and peers 99.5% of the time - a statistic which can be rare in similar programs, but vitally important to the caregiver’s success in receiving the support they need.
