Join us for the Five Core Convictions virtual training with Sarah Buffie!
There are a lot of tools, interventions, and curricula families can implement as a way to help their loved ones begin to heal from toxic stress or challenging experiences. However, sometimes we use these ‘tools’ without a deeper understanding of the WHY behind what we’re experiencing. When this happens we can have the false belief that “If I just had the right intervention it would all be ok!”
Our understanding is that it’s not just what you DO with someone that can make a big difference, but also how you ARE with them - your tone of voice, your posture, your ability to sit in the pause and respond instead of react in certain situations.
This is hard work! But it allows us to be able to orient to the root of what’s going on without getting distracted by the symptoms present.
It is important to know that as special needs families, we (and our kids) can quite often live in toxic stress. That stress can be brought on by anxiety, invasive medical procedures, bullying, isolation, having disabilities, being part of a marginalized group and more. Learning how this affects our body, and how we show up for others experiencing it, can change the trajectory for you and your kids.
With a deep understanding of the 5 Core Convictions parents and family members will be able to develop a lens that helps shift:
The stories we tell about people
The stories we hear about people
And ultimately impact what we DO and how we BE with others
Core Convictions:
Trauma/toxic stress is stored in the body.
Regulation is a practice.
Perceived threat and real threat feel the same in the body.
Trauma symptoms are survival strategies.
Healing happens in relationship.
Discussion/training with event trainer, Sarah Buffie, will happen every other week starting on September 1st! Weeks we aren't with Sarah, we will connect in a private Facebook group via discussion posts to discuss how the Core Convictions show up in our everyday lives.
Live with Sarah Buffie: Thursdays, Sept 1, 15, 29, Oct 13, 27 and Nov 17.
(Learning will build on itself in the sessions. Attendance at all sessions is highly recommended.)
