Pause for Parents, Play for Kids
WHAT WE DO:
Pause is a nonprofit organization (EIN 86-3934358) providing rest, support, connection and fun to families with extra needs to build resilience and increase hope.
Pause currently supports over 1,700 kids and caregivers by hosting free events giving caregivers and kids a safe, fun break, while also allowing them space to build resilience and tools for everyday life.
Children in Pause may have developmental disabilities, mental or behavioral health challenges, chronic medical conditions and/or complex trauma, but we don’t focus on labels—we focus on people.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Special needs parents can spend an additional 35-80 hours a week in care alone of a child with complex needs. Most suffer from physical fatigue, emotional stress and/or emotional upset or guilt.
Respite is a preventive strategy that strengthens families, protects family health and wellbeing, decreases feelings of isolation and improves the family’s ability to cope with daily responsibilities.
Respite can: allow individuals to remain in their own home, prevent costly out-of-home placements, keep all family members safe & stable, and preserve family unity by decreasing pressures that might lead to abuse/neglect, institutionalization and divorce.

The Holiday Shoppe changes the narrative for families and gives them a fun, inclusive space to be together as a family unit during the holiday season.

Your financial sponsorship helps fill the holiday store! With help from their personal shopper, over 318 children of differing abilities will shop for each member for their family in our holiday store - all for free!
You help families create and sustain family traditions. Pictures with our sensory Santa and family photo opportunities helps capture memories families wouldn’t otherwise have.
You help change their story. When engaged in Family Fun events Pause provides, 98% of families have greater joy and 91% have more hope.
Our families are loyal to businesses and organizations who understand and support the special needs community - and they are part of a larger network of friends, communities, and institutions that look favorably on businesses that serve this population. The marketing that comes with a sponsorship may seem incidental to you, but it’s everything to them.
