We might not understand the literal meaning of old phrases, but we do know something Google doesn’t. We are experts in all things CAN DO - what it stands for and what it really means.
CAN DO comes from the idea that we literally can do anything if we work together! CAN DO stands for Connecting A Need, Delivering Opportunities. On the surface that makes simple sense, but at Pause there is always a deeper meaning behind even the little things...even a pretty obvious acronym.
In 2016, when we started meeting with families one on one, they shared real and valid needs that were seemingly simple fixes. Things like finding help to organize a playroom to lessen the overwhelm. Help with a meal when hospital stays were imminent. Someone to fix a hot water heater when money was tight. Each time a need came in, our team would reach out to the people we knew (because you know, we all “know a guy”) and BAM - the need was met!
As our list of helpers grew, we knew we needed to create a formal system to communicate the needs of families and give the community an easy way to make a huge impact! The CAN DO Directory (the people) receive the CAN DO Newsletter (the way we communicate needs and stories) every week Tuesday at noon (the predictable pattern).
You are part of the CAN DO community because you are a part of the Pause program in some way - you’ve helped in the past or said yes to helping in the future! Basically, you’re part of the family. #WeWontMakeItWeird
There are SO many ways to get involved in Pause to support kids and the caregivers who love them. In fact, there is no way to make a full list because the needs are endless and your skills and interests are too! Let’s keep it simple and take a look at 3 main ways to get involved with CAN DO - time, talent, and resources.
